A Case Report of the Mesenteric Panniculitis


Abstract
Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare condition that there is idiopathic nonspecific inflammatory process involving the adipose tissue of the mesentery of the small bowel. Its common gross finding is diffuse, thickened, rubbery mesentery, or serosal
masses
stocked to each other, showing pack of the mesenteric surface. Its histological appearance is that of degeneration of fat cells, area of fat necrosis, lipid-laden macrophages and infiltration of histiocytes, lymphocytes and occasionally foreign
body
giant cells. The prognosis of the disease is good. The diagnosis is confirmed by biopsy.
A case of the mesenteric panniculitis with sliding inguinal hernia is presented and the literatures have been reviewed.
